WICKLOW MAN JAILED FOR 10 YEARS FOR ABUSING STEPDAUGHTER
A Co Wicklow man described as a “horrible monster” by the stepdaughter he systematically abused as a child has been jailed for 10 years.
William Coster of Boghall Cottages in Bray pleaded guilty to a number of sample counts of sexual assault but he was acquitted by a jury on other charges including rape and anal rape.
He looked visibly shocked by the ten year sentence he received for molesting his step daughter over a 4 year period.
Mr Coster began abusing her in 2002 when she was 12 years old. Last December following a 3 day trial, he was convicted on 49 charges of sexual assault.
However the jury cleared him on multiple charges of raping and anally raping his stepdaughter.
The victim, who is now 23 years old, was brought up to believe that Coster was her biological father.
In court she called him a “horrible monster” who took her childhood.
In arriving at a ten year jail sentence Mr Justice Paul Carney said he took account of the early pleas and remorse but also had regard to the multiplicity of offences, the disparity in age between the parties and the effect on the victim.
