Wexford Gardaí make appeal ahead of the Halloween season

Gardaí in Wexford have issued an appeal to members of the public to be aware of the dangers that illegal fireworks present in the community with incidents of burns to hands and faces, as well as life-changing injuries being a potential risk at this time of year as Halloween approaches.

Sergeant Niall Maher also outlined the sanctions surrounding the possession and use of fireworks.

“It is a criminal offence to have fireworks or sell or supply them as well as aiming them at someone.”

Penalties for any of the above are very sever and can include fines of up to €10,000 or up to five years imprisonment or both.

Sergeant Maher has urged people to report illegal fireworks and to “please use common sense” when it comes to fireworks as it poses a great danger as well as being distressing for animals.
