WEXFORD DOCTOR SAYS SHARON GRACE TRAGEDY COULD HAPPEN AGAIN
A Wexford GP has admitted that the state of mental health services in the county mean there is a “high possibility” that the Sharon Grace tragedy could happen again.
The 28 year-old walked into the water at Katt Strand in Wexford with her two children in April 2005 after she failed to get out of hours help from local psychiatric services.
Their bodies were found the next day.
Sharon’s mother-in-law Alcie Grace spoke to South East Radio’s Morning Mix, recounting her daughter’s “kindness”, also stating that there was “no indication” that such a thing might happen.
Wexford GP Paul Curran says not much has changed in the last 10 years, claiming there is “no social worker availability out of hours.”
He went on to say “It’s unfortunate that we haven’t learned from previous experiences.”
