WEXFORD COUNTY COUNCIL OWED MILLIONS IN UNPAID BILLS
Wexford County Council is one of the most indebted councils in the country with over 17 million euro in unpaid bills.
Figures published today are completed by the Local Government Auditor based in the Department of the Environment.
The Irish Independent today details the amount of monies owed to local authorites across the country.
In county Wexford the biggest amount owed is for unpaid rates which currently stands at 7.62 million euro.
Outside of Dublin and Cork this is the fifth highest amount of unpaid rates in the country.
Almost one million each is owed to Wexford County Council in both housing loans and rents according to today’s figures.
The remaining almost eight million comes in unpaid water charges to the council which again is the fifth highest in the country outside of Dublin and Cork.
On top of this the council has to find 4.5 million euro to help finalise payment for it’s new headquarters in Carricklawn.
The state of the art building was completed without funding being in place.
