WEXFORD CO. COUNCIL PROPOSE INCREASE IN LEVY FOR PYLONS ERECTED
Wexford County Council is set to put pressure on Eirgrid to examine further the possibility of putting proposed pylons underground.
This has come in the form of a major levy increase if super pylons are to be erected in the county.
The proposal from this morning’s meeting of the council’s Strategic Policy Committee on Planning aims to increase the levy from 2-thousand to 100-thousand euro per pylon.
The proposal will now go before the final meeting of the current Wexford County Council next week and if ratified will be put out for public consultation.
Meanwhile a panel of experts appointed by the government to consider two controversial pylon projects across the country is to review reports undertaken by Eirgrid into the undergrounding of cables.
In a statement the group says it will provide an opinion to the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Pat Rabbitte on the reports undertaken so far – before the company can go ahead with the public consultation phase of the project.
It will also review the studies into the North South pylon project
Under the chairmanship of former Supreme Court Judge Catherine McGuiness the group will also consider the routes of the Grid West and Grid Link projects.
However the panel says it will not consider the case for the actual provision of the transmission lines nor will it explore electro magnetic field issues.
