WEXFORD BASED GARDA TAKES HIGH COURT ACTION AGAINST COMMISSIONER

A former Wexford based Garda has launched a High Court challenge to be re-instated in the force.

Mark O’Neill has taken the legal action against the Garda Commissioner got refusing to allow him rejoin.

Former Garda O’Neill left the force after serving only seven months in Wexford Garda Station.

In sworn documents opened in the High Court he claims that his former colleagues at the garda station bullied him and failed to investigate crimes and perform mandatory alcohol testing checkpoints.

Mark O’Neill from Kill County Waterford resigned from the force in April 2016 but applied to rejoin in June of the same year.

He was informed in June of this year his application had been refused.

His senior counsel told the court he had not been given any reasons for this.

Counsel said Mr ONeill was entitled to know the reasons and the Commissioner was obliged to give them.

Mark O’Neill has taken judicial review proceedings against the Garda Commissioner and is seeking an order quashing the refusal to let him rejoin the force.

The judge adjourned the matter for a date in the new law term.
