Wexford animal charity running on ‘reserve’ funding

Wexford Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has had its busiest year yet and is currently running on reserve funding.

That’s according Bridget Cullen from the WSPCA who spoke to Alan Corcoran at Monday nights launch of a special Art Exhibition to raise vital funds for the charity.

Ms. Cullen outlined the level of strain being put on the charity’s resources:

“We have 51 dogs and 50 cats as well as horses and goats that are looking for homes. With the increase in vet bills we are really stuck for money at the moment.”

She went on to say that people are having to rehome their pets due to the housing crises and older people have to rehome their pets when they move into nursing homes.

“Some of these pets are older and at this time of year especially no one wants an old dog.”

Fundraising

The charity is calling out for vital funds and launched The Art Exhibition featuring a collection of extraordinary artwork created and donated by a variety of budding artists, including Jean Maskel and Emma Phillips. Showcasing art work has also been kindly donated to the WexfordSPCA shop in Wexford Town.
