More than a thousand homes on the Western side of Enniscorthy were without water this morning following a fracture of the water main on the Eastern side of the town late last night.
The fracture caused a major disruption in the Shannon Quay area, and a number of properties in low lying areas were flooded to a depth of several feet.
Irish water personnel and County Council staff worked throughout the night to contain the flood waters and identify the source of the leak.
That meant turning off the water supply to a large area of the town and heavy digging equipment has been brought in to help pinpoint the exact location of the main fracture.
Most areas affected now have limited supplies of water and many of those affected should have the water supply restored by this evening, but a full service may not be back until tomorrow.
