The International Monetary Fund says there is very little room for wage hikes for public sector workers.
In its latest end of mission assessment of Ireland the fund says it fully supports the proposed new mortgage rules from the Central Bank and will make further comment when they are formally announced.
It warns that social protection expenditure needs to be reduced and some universal payments such as child benefit should be means tested or taxed.
