Survey: Over 20,000 More Than Should Be Eligible To Vote In Wexford

SURVEY: OVER 20,000 MORE THAN SHOULD BE ELIGIBLE TO VOTE IN WEXFORD

A new survey has found that there could be in excess of 20,000 people eligible to vote in the Wexford constituency than is actually there.

However the claim has been denied by the Department of the Environment.

The study of the electoral register and the latest census figures of population has suggested the register in Wexford is overstated by 20,000.

The survey was carried out by media election analyst Odran Flynn and found similar discrepancies in a number of other constituencies with the national picture showing almost 500,000 overstated on the register.

However the content of the study has been disputed by the Department of the Environment who do not accept that there are inaccuracies of this scale.

It commented that Dail constituencies are drawn up on the basis of population at the last census and are not compiled with reference to numbers on the voting register.

Mr Flynn said he based his figures on the 2011 general election.
