SPORT: YOUTHS TRIUMPH OVER COBH IN 2ND GAME OF SEASON

Wexford Youths got over last week’s loss at Shelbourne in their first game of the new Airtricity League First Division season with a 3-2 home victory over Cobh Ramblers Friday night.

The Youths quickly built up a 2-0 lead through goals from Aidan Keenan on 11 minutes and a Danny Furlong penalty in the 24th, but Cobh stormed back with a goal in the 39th minute to make it 2-1.

But Stephen Last restored the two goal cushion on 43 minutes and at half time it remained 3-1 to the Youths.

There was a Cobh score in the 59th minute to reduce the lead to one but Youths managed to hold on for the three points.

Next Friday night (21st) youths are again at home in Ferrycarrig Park with Longford the visitors (kick-off at 8pm) and the following Friday night (28th) it’s the South East derby against Waterford United at the RSC.
