SPORT: WEXFORD’S UNDER 21 GAELIC FOOTBALLERS SUFFER DEFEAT

The Wexford U21 Football team were destroyed by visitors Offaly last night in Taghmon.

Conditions were awful and when Adam Shelly scored an early goal for the visitors the writing was on the wall.

Wexford were overrun in midfield and they never got to grips with Offaly and suffered a humiliating 13 point walloping – 1-16 to 6 points.

European Tour Golfer Shane Lowry was in Taghmon to support his County.

Offaly now play Kildare on the 5th March in the next round of the Under 21 championship.

Longford and Westmeath will have to replay their first round match after they couldn’t be separated after extra-time in Newtowncashel, while Laois were 1-point winners over Wicklow – winning out by 10 points to 9.
