SPORT: WEXFORD HURLING MANAGER EXPLAINS DECISION TO DROP JACK GUINEY
Jack Guiney has been dropped from Wexford’s senior hurling panel just days before their Leinster semi-final against Kilkenny on Sunday.
Manager Liam Dunne has dropped the 22-year-old following a disciplinary breach.
Its understood his disciplinary action came following a night out after the team’s championship win over Westmeath.
Jack Guiney is one of the team’s most valuable assets and lined out at wing forward in their 1-24 to 1-16 win over Westmeath nine days ago. He scored a total of 2-26 in his five league outings earlier this season.
Manager Liam Dunne told Liam Spratt that he does not make rules but sets standards and if players don’t come up to that standard or can’t make that committment there is no place in the set-up.
He says at the moment Jack can’t make that committment.
Dunne admitted that he’d love to have Guiney in the panel but says he’s not sure if Jack wants to be in the team as much as everyone else wants him to be.
