SPORT: SHANE LONG’S INJURY NOT AS BAD AS FIRST FEARED

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman says Shane Long’s injury is not as bad as first feared.

The striker was taken off in the second half of their 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth last night, a few minutes after colliding with defender Steve Cook.

Harry Arter limped off the field for the hosts in the second half.

In the night’s other action Sunderland climbed out of the bottom three with a 2-2 draw at home to Crystal Palace after Norwich lost 2-1 at home to Chelsea thanks to goals from Kennedy and Costa.

John O’Shea was taken off during the first half of Sunderland’s game.

Ireland manager Martin O’Neill will hope O’Shea, Arter and Long are available for the friendly matches against Switzerland and Slovakia at the end of the month.

Bottom side Aston Villa’s situation worsened with a 3-1 defeat to Everton, while Leicester extended their lead at the top to 3 points with a 2-2 draw at home to West Brom.
