SPORT: PAUL O’CONNELL ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM RUGBY
Former Munster, Ireland and Lions second row Paul O’Connell has confirmed that his playing days are over.
The 36 year old says he made the decision to retire following medical advice after picking up a hamstring injury during Ireland’s win over France at the World cup.
O’Connell had signed for French side Toulon and while he will not be able to play for the European champions he has thanked them for their support in recent months.
He says Toulon owner Mourad Boujallal was very understanding of his decision.
Regarding his future the Limerick man says he is interested in coaching but it maybe some time before he gets to work with Munster.
