IRISH ATHLETES IN ACTION TODAY IN RIO

The first day of action at the Paralympics is also one of the busiest, from an Irish perspective.

First into action is swimmer Ailbhe Kelly, who competes in the heats of the S8 400-metre freestyle.

Damien Vereker and Sean Hahessy compete in cycling’s Individual B pursuit.  Rena McCarron Rooney is in table tennis qualifier action and at 6pm Irish time, the men’s football side face Ukraine.

Jason Smyth begins his quest for a third 100-metre gold medal, when he goes in the T-13 heats at around 11.20 tonight, Irish time.
