Bray lightweight Taylor was beaten on a split decision by Finland’s Mira Potkonen in their quarter-final in Rio. Belfast Bantam Conlon will be guaranted at least a broze medal if he beats Vladimir Nikitin of Russia in their quarter-final bout at about 3.30pm this afternoon. Meanwhile there are also Irish medal hopes on the water in Rio today. Annalise Murphy is in third place heading into the final of the Laser Radial. She was due to race last night but it was postponed. 88 year old Carmel Winkelman has been involved with Murphy’s home club for 50 years, and says Annalise has put everything into these games.
