SPORT: GAA PRESIDENT ADMITS HURLING’S PENALTY RULE MAY NEED CHANGING
GAA President Liam O’Neill has admitted that hurling’s current penalty rule may need changing.
Both Seamus Callanan and John O’Dwyer had penalties saved during Sunday’s drawn All Ireland final.
While a goal hasn’t come from a penalty in the Championship since Joe Canning netted for Galway against Kilkenny in the Leinster semi final in June and the implimentation of the so-called ‘Nash rule’.
O’Neill said the debate within the organisation to change the current status quo has been ongoing since before Sunday.
