SHATTER APPEALING DECISION OVER WALLACE REMARKS
Former Justice Minister Alan Shatter is appealing a decision by the Data Protection Commissioner that he unlawfully divulged information about TD Mick Wallace on Prime Time.
The case came before Judge Alan Mahon at Dublin Circuit Civil Court this morning.
In May the then Justice Minister Alan Shatter disclosed on national television that TD Mick Wallace had been cautioned by gardai for using his phone while driving.
On foot of a complaint by the Wexford TD, the Data Protection Commissioner subsequently found that Alan Shatter had broken data protection laws by revealing this personal information.
Alan Shatter has now brought an appeal against this finding which will be heard in the Circuit Civil Court at a date yet to be decided.
Following submissions on behalf of Mick Wallace Judge Alan Mahon today agreed to add the Independent TD as a notice party to the case.
His lawyers argued that he should have access to the legal papers because the outcome will directly affect his rights and interests.
