SF BLOSSOM, DUP WILT IN NORTH ELECTIONS Sinn Finn has enjoyed its strongest ever results in Northern Ireland election history. The snap poll was sparked by the collapse of the power-sharing government 6 weeks ago over DUP leader Arlene Foster’s links to the so-called cash for ash controversy. The nationalist party is now just one seat behind the DUP – which previously held ten more seats than Sinn Fein and also had an overall majority. Sinn Fein has 27 seats to the DUP’s 28, and the Unionist party – having failed to reach the 30-seat target – has also lost its ability to table ‘Petitions of Concern’. These are effectively vetoes on legislation.
