Secondary School Teachers Re-enter Junior Cert Reform Talks

SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS RE-ENTER JUNIOR CERT REFORM TALKS

Secondary school teachers are currently in talks in Dublin considering a set of proposals aimed at resolving their row with the Department of Education over Junior Cert reform.

Dr Pauric Travers who has been mediating in the dispute has suggested two school based assessments should take place.

One in second year and another in third year with results being initially reported by schools.

The executive councils of the TUI and ASTI are meeting this morning to consider the plan.

If teachers accept the proposals further discussions will be needed and the introduction of the new Junior Cert Science syllabus, due to come into practice in September, will have to be delayed.
