REVIEW OF BOWEL SCREENING CASES AT WEXFORD GENERAL HOSPITAL DOUBLED
The number of patient colonoscopies being reviewed under the bowel screen programme at Wexford General hospital is being doubled.
This comes after the first review was carried out in February.
The news comes just a day after it was revealed that x-rays taken by a locum radiologist at Wexford General last summer had to be reviewed following concerns raised.
According to a report in the Irish Times today a further 331 patients on top of the 280 reviewed in February are being investigated.
The review has also been extended to other members of the team under the consultant whose work was originally under examination.
A spokewoman for the HSE said an additional 210 Bowel screen patients and 121 people who recieved diagnostic colonoscopies in Wexford General had recently been recalled.
Further appointments are being scheduled.
The spokeswoman said every patient affected by this latest review had been contacted and their GPs have also had been advised.
