MOST CRIME GROUPS FALL IN CO. WEXFORD
There’s been a slight increase in rape and sexual assualt offences recorded in County Wexford.
However, the latest crime statistics also show there’s been a decrease in homicides, burlgaries and thefts.
The Central Statistics Office’s latest statistics on recorded crime show there’s been a 5 per cent increase in the number of rape and sexual assualts cases in County Wexford in the past year.
There have been 19 such cases in quarter 2 of this year – compared with 18 for the same period last year.
However there havn’t been any homicides in the county while there was one in the 12 months to the second quarter of this year.
That compares with the national figure of 83 – which is up by 5.
Nationally there’s also been a rise in the number of kidnappings.
Thefts have also gone down in County Wexford – there were 34 less of them when quarter 2 of 2014 is compared with the same period in 2013.
Burglaries have also seen a decrease in the county – dropping by 14.6 per cent.
