MINISTER DEFENDS JOB BRIDGE AFTER UNIONS CALL FOR IT TO BE SCRAPPED
The Social Protection Minister says that people have voted with their feet in relation to Job Bridge.
Joan Burton says that more 25, 200 people have taken up the scheme with 6,300 currently on it.
She was responding to calls from a number of unions, including USI and Mandate, to have the programme scrapped.
Minister Burton says Job Bridge is a positive programme.
“Job Bridge is one of a very wide menu of programmes that we run in the Department to actually give people who’ve become unfortunately unemployed another chance to get back into employment” she said.
“Why the Union of Students in Ireland should not have – as their primary mission – getting their fellow students into employment, that’s really an issue for them” she added.
