Man Due In Court Over Assault On Elderly Man In Limerick

MAN DUE IN COURT OVER ASSAULT ON ELDERLY MAN IN LIMERICK

A man is due in court this morning charged in relation to an attack on an elderly man in Limerick last Thursday.

The man in his 80s was left uninjured but very shaken when he was robbed at Roxboro Shopping Centre.

Meanwhile a woman (89) is recovering in hospital after she was mugged outside her house in the Rossbrien area of the city on Sunday night, when she returned home from bingo.

Metropolitan Mayor of Limerick Councillor Jerry O’Dea says the assaults have worried locals.

“The assault on the elderly male – a man will appear before Limerick District Court today being charged with that offence” he said.

“The two of them happened within a short period of time; one was last Thursday, and then the other (at) the weekend”.

“So there was a lot of…concern, and the gardaí seem to have acted very quickly in response to that” he added.
