Irish Ferries has announced it is purchasing a new state of the art passenger ship.
The new €144 million vessel is being built in Germany and will accommodate 1,900 passengers, 435 cabins and space for 165 freight vehicles and 300 cars.
The vessel is being financed with a €75 million loan from the European Investment Bank.
Irish Ferries expect to use the ship on their Dublin Holyhead route and between Dublin and Cherbourg at weekends.
The company operates two daily ferry services from Rosslare to Pembroke in Wales and a number of weekly services from Rosslare to Cherbourg in France.
They also operate a service from Rosslare to Roscoff in France during the summer months.
