INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY FOLLOWING FATAL SHOOTING IN DUBLIN
Gardaí are investigating whether a man shot dead in Dublin last night was the gunman’s intended target.
64-year-old Edward Nugent – who was not known to gardaí – was wounded a number of times through a glass door at the front of his home in Walkinstown at about 9:30pm.
He was rushed to hospital, but pronounced dead a short time later, and a post mortem will be carried out today.
Our reporter at the scene, Richard Chambers, says a full investigation is underway.
“Gardaí are ruling out that it might have been a…case of mistaken identity in the shooting” he said.
“Mr Nugent was not known to gardaí, it’s taken a lot of people by surprise here in Walkinstown this morning”.
“A lot of shocked people that passed us by are coming though, people who say they know the family say there was nothing untoward about Mr Nugent at all” he added.
