INMA SAYS SAFETY IS ‘PARAMOUNT’ AFTER JOURNALISTS THREATENED
The Editor in Chief of Independent News and Media says its increasing security and taking all necessary precautions to protect staff at the company after confirming a number of its journalists had received threats.
It comes after gardaí informed some of the reporters that their safety is at risk from Dublin based criminal gangs.
The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) says reporters must be able to do their jobs without intimidation.
Stephen Rea says the security and safety of their journalists at INM is of ‘paramount importance’.
“Well what we’ve done (is) brought in outside security consultants who’ve done a risk assessment, and then a security analysis on the personal safety of our people and our journalists is of paramount importance” he said.
“And that’s why we’re taking all precautions necessary” he added.
