HUNDREDS OF FARMERS PROTEST OVER WEXFORD MEAT PLANT SALE
Up to 1,000 farmers from all over the country descended on the village of Clohamon yesterday.
They were there for a protest over the future ownership of the Slaney Foods meat processing plant.
It comes after the Goodman owned ABP Group offered to buy a 50 percent stake in the business.
Chairman of Wexford IFA, Pat Murray, says they’re very pleased with yesterday’s turnout:
“We had farmers eh yesterday from all over Ireland, you can see that such a huge issue and eh they travelled from as far away as Donegal and Mayo so we had huge support from all over the country.” he said.
“We also had our politicians in, eh we had our local politicians and we’d say to them to particularly put pressure on the Minister now, we need a submission put into Brussels that this deal does not go ahead.” he added.
