HEAD OF CANCER SOCIETY TAKES PAY CUT AFTER DROPPING PATIENT FUNDING
The head of the Irish Cancer Society is taking a 10,000 euro pay cut in the aftermath of the patient funding controversy.
John McCormack has confirmed his new salary will be 135,000 euro and says he regrets the decision this week to stop hardship grants for cancer patients.
The ICS made a partial u-turn on the controversial decision and will now maintain the grants for the families of children suffering from the condition.
John McCormack says they will find the money to retain the services for children, and are making cuts elsewhere.
“It wasn’t the only scheme that we targeted – we looked throughout the organisation for savings” he said.
“We made savings in our staff costs, for example, we’re not replacing people who are on maternity leave, we’re not replacing people who’ve left the organisation – and we have 750,000 euros of savings in staff costs” he added.
