GOVERNMENT TO ANNOUNCE STIMULUS PLAN
The government is set to allocate funds of up to 1 billion euro in a stimulus plan that will be announced in the coming weeks.
It’s expected plans in the areas of roads, education and health will benefit.
The money’s coming from three sources – the sales of Bord Gais Energy and the National Lottery, as well as potentially through Irish Water.
Our Political Editor Shane Coleman says the funding won’t be targeting any new projects.
“They are projects that have been in the pipeline for some time, but they haven’t had the money to spend on it” he said.
“What they now have is additional resources coming through from the sale of Bord Gais Energy, from the Lotto sale, hopefully from Irish Water”.
“This is going to be an extra billion euro that they didn’t have in the budget that they will be able to spend on projects that they wanted to do for some time, but haven’t had the money to do” he added.
