GOVERNMENT ACCUSED OF SETTING UP ‘ONE HELL OF A QUANGO’ IN IRISH WATER
It comes after it emerged half the cost of setting up the utility company has been paid to consultants.
Head of Irish Water John Tierney has defended the 50 million paid over saying the company had to be up and running in just 12 months.
But Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has described it as a scandal.
“I think this is going to get bigger and bigger – this govenrment prior to the election, and Phil Hogan in particular, was a great man for saying he was going to cut quangos and reduce the number of so-called quangos” he said.
“He’s created one hell of a one now”.
“I think it’s going to eat up resources; and ultimately the customer and the person in the house will end up paying for all of this” he added.
