GENERAL ELECTION WILL NOT BE CALLED UNTIL TOMORROW
The general election will not be called until tomorrow.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny will not now dissolve the Dáil today as had been widely expected.
Business will continue as normal, including discussions about abuse at a foster home in the south east.
Mr Kenny will then meet the Fine Gael parliamentary party this evening, before travelling to Aras an Uachtarain tomorrow.
While a Labour Minister says that the demise of the party has been wrongfully predicted many times.
Brendan Howlin says the party is ready for an election.
“We’re ready, I think the country is ready for election – and whether it’s today, tomorrow or the day after is neither here nor there” he said.
“I think most people understand that we’re now in an election mode, people have choices to make about the next five years – which is really the most important thing” he added.
