GARDAI WARN ‘SIZEABLE QUANTITY’ OF COUNTERFEIT 50 EURO NOTES IN CIRCULATION
People are being urged to be vigilant for counterfeit 50 euro notes.
Gardai believe there is a sizeable quantity of the forged money currently in circulation around the country.
It comes after a recent raid on a premises on the North Circular Road in Dublin.
Printing paper to produce two million euro worth of counterfeit 50 euro notes was discovered at the scene.
Three men arrested during the operation appeared in court earlier this week.
Superintendent David Taylor from the Garda Press Office says people should contact gardai if they have suspect notes.
“People should look out at the security features – the watermark on examination – is quite distinctive – that the watermark is not there” he said.
“The watermark in genuine notes is embedded within the note, in these notes it’s actually printed onto the note”.
“So while they’re good quality and may pass very cursory inspection, we’d ask people to look at their money and check it” he added.
