The head of Aer Lingus has warned that air travel could be ‘held hostage’ during the Brexit negotiations. It comes after warnings that flights between the UK and the rest of Europe could be grounded if there’s no deal on open airspace. Ryanair has said it could mean major disruption to services to the UK if it isn’t sorted during the 2 year negotiating process. Meanwhile, Scotland’s first minister has told Theresa May there’s no “rational reason” for her to stand in the way of a second referendum on Scottish independence. Nicola Sturgeon has written to the British prime minister formally asking for talks between the two governments – but Downing Street has said it will decline the request.
