EVEREST AVALANCHE DEATH TOLL RISES
13 Nepalese guides have been killed and three other people are still missing after an avalanche on Mount Everest.
The avalanche – the deadliest in eight years – hit the most popular route to the mountain’s peak.
It hit an area just below a hiking base camp at around 1:30am this morning, Irish time.
Irish mountaineer Jason Black has climbed Everest. He says he is devastated by the news.
“These guys know this mountain inside out – it’s their life” he said.
“It’s a real tragedy – as an Everest summiter myself my heart goes out to these guys, I know what these guys do to facilitate climbers from around the world to…follow the dreams of life to get to the top of world” he added.
