EU THREATENS SANCTIONS AGAINST UKRAINE AMID WORSENING POLITICAL UNREST
25 people have been killed in clashes between protesters and police in the capital Kiev after President Yanukovych requested financial help from Russia instead than Europe.
The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Eamon Gilmore will attend an extraordinary meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Brussels tomorrow to discuss the crisis.
European Commission President Jose-Manuel Barroso says the EU stands ready to assist with reform in the Ukraine.
“The European Union has been offering its sincere assistance to facilitate political dialogue between all sides and also to de-escalate the situation” he said.
“We continue to believe that we need in Ukraine constitutional reform, formation of a new inclusive government and also to create conditions for democratic election” he added.
