Enniscorthy To Be Visited By The President

ENNISCORTHY TO BE VISITED BY THE PRESIDENT

President Michael D Higgins will be in Enniscorthy this afternoon to see first hand the devastation after last week’s flooding.

The President and Sabine Higgins are currently in Labane, in south Galway, where houses are under threat of recurring flooding.

Meanwhile residents on Island Road in the Wexford town have been speaking about their ordeal in the wake of storm Frank.

Many people living in the area are elderly and have been flooded on several occasions in the past ten to fifteen years.

Michael O Neill says the first floor of his house is destroyed and not for the first time;

“We’ve just been completely wiped out, the whole downstairs we’ve had up to three feet of water through the whole lot, everything, we just lost everything..again” he said.

He continued by saying; “we had insurance all the way up to..actually this year and the premium went so high we just couldn’t afford to pay it….it just kept going up and up and up.”

“We have normal insurance but they won’t insure us against flooding” he said.
