DEFER YOUR PRICE HIKE – CONSUMERS ASSOCIATION TO BORD GAIS
Bord Gais is being called on to defer a planned price hike after details emerged about a multi-million euro payout for staff.
The company is due to raise its prices by 1.5 percent next month.
Around 1000 workers at the utility are to share a 55 million euro payment as part of the sale of Bord Gais.
Dermot Jewell from the Consumers Association of Ireland says it shows just how profitable the company is.
“Every time Bord Gais put themselves forward for an increase they make the point that they are struggling and that there are difficulties there” he said.
“The reality of the ability to make this payment shows that that is not the case – and therefore it requires further investigation, further return as to why previous and current increases have been necessitated when clearly they are in a very profitable status” he added.
