Commissioner Appeals For Information On Alleged Murder Of Civilian By Garda

COMMISSIONER APPEALS FOR INFORMATION ON ALLEGED MURDER OF CIVILIAN BY GARDA

The Minister for Justice has urged anyone with information on the alleged murder of a civilian by a garda to come forward.

Frances Fitzgerald has asked for a report into allegations made by Clare Daly under Dáil privilege two weeks ago.

The Independent TD claimed an officer witnessed a colleague shooting a member of the public and was then asked to say he was not there.

Garda Commissioner Noirin O’Sullivan says the matter will be fully investigated if an official complaint is made.

“I would encourage any member of the public – including an elected representatives – who has evidence or has suspicions of wrongdoing against members of An Garda Siochana to bring it to the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission” she said.

“Or indeed, if they feel that that isn’t inappropriate, that they can bring it to myself – but in matters of such seriousness, I believe it should be brought to the Ombudsman Commission” she added.
