CLOUD COVER DEVELOPED AROUND THE TIME A PLANE CRASHED IN CO. WEXFORD

It’s claimed today that a sudden cloud descended on the area of the Blackstairs mountain in County Wexford where a two seater plane crashed yesterday afternoon.

Both occupants from County Meath lost their lives in the crash, believed to have happened at around lunchtime, as they were en route to an airfield outside Taghmon.

69-year-old Bryan Keane and 58-year-old Paul Smith died after their plane came down near Blackstairs Commons.

No distress signal was sent from the aircraft.

Investigations are underway into what happened.

Local resident in the area of the crash, Christy Doyle, told South East Radio this morning that at around the time of the accident the mountain top was covered in cloud.

He said he was going to do some work on a water pipe at approximately 12.50pm, around the time of the crash, but when he went outside he said there was a small shower of rain and he looked up at the hill and it was covered in cloud.

Christy Doyle said it cleared a short time later.
