CHRIS EVANS ‘OBVIOUS CHOICE’ TO REPLACE JEREMY CLARKSON
There has mixed reaction to the announcement that Chris Evans is the new presenter of Top Gear.
The BBC programme is watched by 350 million people worldwide.
Evans replaces Jeremy Clarkson who was sacked after punching his producer, Oisin Tymon.
Clarkson has previously said his Top Gear sacking was his “own silly fault” and that he was “very sad” to have to leave the show after working for the BBC for 27 years.
Evans will lead an all new line-up, but the replacements for Clarkson’s co-hosts – Richard Hammond and James May – have not been announced.
Neil Midgely, media commentator at Forbes.com thinks Chris Evans is the logical replacement.
“He is about as close to Jeremy Clarkson as you could get to Jeremy Clarkson without cloning him” he said.
“He’s a white male, middle-class, middle-aged, very experienced TV presenter and a petrol head”.
“I think the potential difficulty for the BBC is that because he is so experienced and because he is such an obvious choice, he will be under pressure to succeed straight away” he added.
