President-elect Donald Trump spoke with the president of self-ruled Taiwan.
Washington cut diplomatic ties in 1979 with the island nation – which Beijing sees as a renegade province, rather than independent.
China says the Americans need to carefully handle the issue but it blames Taiwan for – what it calls – a “petty” move.
