CHAIR TELLS REHAB PAIR THEY WONT ESCAPE PAC QUESTIONS

The Chair of the Public Accounts Committee says “there is no way” Angela Kerins and Frank Flannery can escape taking questions about the Rehab controversy.

Last night the PAC said the two former executives of the group will be given two weeks to comply, after which they will be legally obliged to attend a Committee meeting.

The PAC will also write to individuals at the HSE and other related bodies asking them to come forward.

Chairperson John McGuinness says Ms. Kerins and Mr Flannery should co-operate now.

He says there will be no escape once legal powers are secured.

“There is a legal obligation – a very serious legal obligation – on all of those concerned – be it the agencies or individuals – to respond to the Public Accounts Committee” he said.

“There is no way of getting out of compellability”.

“Now you can challenge it in the courts, you can do all of that – but the easiest way out of all of this is to provide the information and cooperate” he added.
