CANVASSING CONTINUES FOR CARLOW KILKENNY BY-ELECTION
Election fever is hotting up on the borders of Wexford.
13 candidates are fighting it out for a Dail seat in the Carlow-Kilkenny by-election.
All the main political parties are sending their heavyweight campaigners to the Carlow-Kilkenny constituency in a bid to win the seat vacated by Phil Hogan, who is now European Commissioner for Agriculture.
Fianna Fail appear to be favourites to win the seat held by Fine Gael as Bobby Aylward from South Kilkenny aims to win back the seat he lost in the last election.
However Fine Gaels David Fitzgerald from Kilkenny city is putting in a strong canvass as is Kathleen Funchion from Sinn Fein with both expected to poll well.
However their seat will eventually be decided on transfers according to informed sources.
Also in the race is Independent candidate Breda Gardner from Thomastown.
She works as a complimenary health therapist and had a regular guest spot on South East Radio’s Morning Mix.
The Renua party is running it’s first candidate in an election with the selection of Patrick McGee, who has defected from Fianna Fail to join the new party.
