AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF LAUNCHES BY RNLI LIFEBOATS
Wexford RNLI Lifeboat rescued 18 people according to new figures published this morning.
Nationally over one thousand two hundred people were brought to safety in 2013.
Wexford Lifeboat launched nine times last year according to new statistics released today.
Eighteen people were rescued by the crew which includes sixteen volunteer members who are on call 24 hours a day.
Nationally RNLI lifeboats in Ireland launched 1,087 times in 2013 bringing 1,278 people to safety.
The statistics show the majority of last year’s call outs were to pleasure craft which accounted for 583 services while there were 138 launches to fishing vessels.
In a year when Ireland enjoyeed one of it’s hottest summers – the figures show an increase of 132 lifeboat launches in 2013 – up from 955 in 2012 to1,087.
