INDEPENDENT TDS CLOSE TO FINALISING ESTABLISHMENT OF NEW POLITICAL PARTY
A new political party could be in the pipeline, with three Independent TDs said to be in talks about the establishment of a new group.
It is reported that Independent TDs Catherine Murphy and Stephen Donnelly are involved, along with former Labour TD Roisin Shortall.
The new party would compete with Lucinda Creighton’s recently established Renua and an as yet unformed alliance of independent TDs and councillors being organised by Shane Ross.
Political Correspondent with the Irish Times, Harry McGee, says talks are at a very early stage but a number of people have been approached.
“It seems that Roisin Shortall is the driver of the talks and is the person who’s been the main contact and who seems to be most keen to create something” he said.
“And you have Stephen Donnelly and Catherine Murphy have also been involved”.
“They’ve approached others – the names of Katherine Zappone and Jillian van Turnhout in the Seanad have been mentioned” he added.
