APPEAL SEEKING TO OVERTURN CHILDREN’S REFERENDUM REJECTED
The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal seeking to overturn the result of the Children’s Referendum.
The petition was brought by Dublin woman Joanna Jordan, who had argued that the Government’s 1.1 million euro information campaign had a material influence on the result.
However, the seven judge panel unanimously rejected the appeal – saying it could not be proven – while the 58 to 42 per cent margin in favour of the Yes side was also cited as a significant factor in their decision.
Children’s rights campaigners have welcomed the Supreme Court’s ruling but Joanna Jordan says she the matter may be taken to the European courts.
