TD PAUL MURPHY AMOUNG 4 ARRESTED OVER WATER PROTEST LAST NOVEMBER
Socialist TD Paul Murphy is one of four men who have been arrested in connection with the protest last November which saw the Tánaiste trapped in her car for over two hours.
The four, aged between 30 and 50, were arrested this morning and are being detained in garda stations across Dublin’s south side.
The Anti Austerity Alliance says two of its councillors, Mick Murphy and Kieran Mahon, are among those who are being held under section four of the Criminal Justice Act and can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
Conor Feehan of Independent Newspapers says the Garda investigation has a number of points of focus.
“What they are looking at and what they are investigating is incidents of public order and also of false imprisonment” he said.
“But what each person is being questioned for we don’t know at this stage – but they are certainly are what the investigation is centring on” he added.
