US POLICE SEEK TWO MEN AFTER GARDA WAS SHOT ON HOLIDAY
A New Orleans judge has said he is embarrassed, outraged and mortified at the shooting of Garda Brian Hanrahan in the city earlier this week.
Brian Hanrahan, who is from Tipperary but based in Newcastle West garda station, was shot twice when he was robbed while on holidays earlier this week.
His injuries are not believed to be life threatening and police are seeking two men in relation to the incident.
New Orleans’ Judge James McKay says those found guilty of the shooting will face the full force of the law.
“It’s a terrible thing to happen – anytime you have a guest in your city when something like this happens it hurts” he said.
“We’re a very hospitable city and this is very challenging for us to grasp”.
“I think that if the perpetrators are apprehended, they’ll be prosecuted to the full extent of the law” he added.
